Day 1
I'll probably be doing daily posts, so the below will be my impressions/etc for the duration of the day and I'll post it at the end of the day. No time incl other than which meal it is coz I can't be arsed to timestamp every paragraph. So there.
First meal: Exante's Shepherd's Pie (Future reference SPie)
No microwave, so I added boiling water and attempted to steam it... I supposed it worked, but in future, will just cook directly on the stove as it'll probably be faster. Am pondering adding some fresh vegetables like a couple of cherry tomatoes and some lettuce for some freshness in future meals but will have to go grocery shopping first.
Taste-wise... it was edible. Had bits in it and the random pea. It had a very slight bitter taste somehow, which I don't quite enjoy, and I had to make myself slowly go through the entire bowl, chewing slowly. 49 more packets of this to go, so well.. I may as well jazz it up with fresh veg in the future to help it along. I don't think the addition of some mushroom or carrot will hurt either. On the bright side, it was very filling and I can definitely feel it sitting in my stomach, which should tide any hunger pangs for a few hours at least, one would hope.
Hrm, looks like I may have undercooked the damn shepherd's pie as I am having indigestion atm. Urgh.
Looks like I can use at least one stock cube and 1tsp of Marmite or Bovril a day, as well as herbs, spices, fish sauce and a couple of tbs of soy sauce. Will likely try different ways to make it taste a little better than edible.
Not sure if I'm hungry yet (three+ hours after eating first meal) but my stomach feels weird, so on to the second meal, which will hopefully settle it.
Second meal: Exante's Red Bean Chilli (Future reference: RBChilli)
Better attempt at steaming though the beans are still a little hard, though that gives me a good excuse to chew longer (Note: The longer you spend chewing, the better) The chilli tastes way better than the shepherd's pie though, and is easier to eat, something I'm happy about. Eating it was more like eating an actual meal rather than that chore of shovelling Spie into my mouth earlier in the day. Will probably round off the evening with soup of some sort. (Another note: I prefer to spell this as chili vs chilli coz the latter is red pepper and former is minced beef in a sauce thingy but w/e, since this is how Exante spells it, I'll go with it)
Note to self: Sleeping earlier will help stave off hunger pangs.
Snack (of sorts): 1 tsp Marmite with 1/2 cup hot water
Seeing that I'm allowed 1 tsp of Marmite a day, I decided not to waste it and made a small bowl of broth with the stuff, which was surprisingly good, if you like Marmite. I know, it's an acquired taste, but I've acquired it, so there. Anyway, it seems that I'm still have some sorta indigestion going on, which is highly uncomfortable, so I also put some Eno into a glass of water and drank it. I trust the Eno doesn't contain too many calories :รพ but to be honest, all that gas makes me really uncomfortable, so something had to be done.
Two more hours to go at work, then maybe an hour or two of reading. I'll probably have my last meal somewhere in between.
Oh, incidentally, I do believe I've at least drunk 2 litres of water today and will probably drink a bit more before I end this post. Good job, me! Achievement unlocked! Ding!
Third meal: Exante's Squash and Sweet Potato Soup (Future ref: SSPSoup)
It's not bad. Has a creamy, buttery sorta taste to it, although I really can't identify what I'm drinking. Made with hot water, and despite vigorous stirring, still has some small lumps in it, though that doesn't really bother me too much. I'd say this is a step down from the RBChilli but still somewhat better than the monstrous SPie I had earlier. Speaking of the SPie, I believe I may use some or all of the marmite on it to make it more palatable at some point in the future. I believe I do need to add some black pepper to my next purchase, as well as tabasco sauce.
Thoughts:
I survived Day 1... kinda... there's still a few more hours to go, unless I stop reading. I really should go to bed soon and sleep a damn lot if I don't want to go hungry, but I'm in the middle of a book. Urgh. At least it means more water, which is good, right? lol
